Prescribed Burns to be conducted within Williams Lake city limits

B.C Wildfire Services (BCWS) cautions that there will be prescribed burns conducted in the city limits of Williams Lake this weekend.

The City of Williams Lake and Williams Lake First Nation, with the support of BCWS, will conduct four prescribed burns over a combined 18 hectares.

The burns are scheduled to start on Saturday, April 5, and conclude on Sunday, April 6.

These burns aim to reduce the risk of a wildfire starting or spreading in these areas.

The four locations of the burns will be:

  • Eight hectares in the Stampede Park Grounds
  • Seven hectares in the dairy fields
  • Two hectares in Hillside Park, adjacent to Lake City Secondary’s Campus
  • And one hectare at the water tower hill on Gibbon Street.

BCWS cautions residents that smoke and flames will be visible within the city of Williams Lake, and to motorists traveling along Highways 97 and 20.

Another prescribed burn was announced this morning at White Road and Bellevue Drive on the north side of Highway 97, to be conducted over the same weekend.

BCWS says there will be traffic control and firefighters on-site at both locations to ensure the public’s safety.
