West Fraser Issues Statement On MDF Explosion And Fire

West Fraser has issued a statement about the explosion and fire at it’s WestPine MDF plant in Quesnel last night.
The company says it occurred in the equipment and that it’s employees acted quickly, safety procedures were engaged and the mill was evacuated.
As for when the mill might re-open, the company can only say at this point that the fire caused damage and the facility will not be operational for a period of time.

100 people are employed at the mill.

The event was MC'd by the previous years Quesnel Ambassadors winners. The final decision on who will be the 2025 Quesnel Ambassador will be made tonight at 7 pm at Echen Hall.
