Y Intersection In Williams Lake Getting A New Look

Williams Lake motorists have noticed some work going on at the intersection of Oliver Street and Highway 20.

Director of Municipal Services for the City, Rob Warnock said they’re cleaning up the material in the “pies” located at each corner.

“The material has been in there for about 27 years. I think it was 1998 when they re-did the Y intersection and the City had them put shrubs in there. After 27 years, a lot of stuff is dead and dying in there and it’s a lot of maintenance so we were able to get the money and we’re going to dig everything out.”

Warnock added that people are going to see a machine taking everything out and we’ll be putting back new top soil.

“We’re actually going to have grass grow in these now. We’re going to have smaller gardens on each one of the “pies” that are out there and it should be a lot easier to maintain and help with sight lines.”

Warnock said all the old material they’re taking out is being trucked to the dump because it’s no good.

“The work started today (March 26) and hopefully some time next week that part will be done. I ask motorists to keep their speed down in and to be aware of the people that are working in that area.”

Warnock noted that if anyone has any concerns or questions that they can get a hold of him at City Hall 250-392-1783.

“Give us a few weeks and once the grass comes in and people can see the flowers in there in a month or two I think they will see a big change. It’s the entrance to our City so this has been a goal to clean this up.”
