Prescribed Burn Planned Near Westridge Subdivision in Williams Lake

BC Wildfire Services is collaborating with the City of Williams Lake and Williams Lake First Nation for a prescribed burn starting Tuesday, March 25.

The prescribed burn will occur on about 20 hectares of land northeast of the Westridge Subdivision and between Country Club Boulevard.

The goal of the burn is to reduce the risk of wildfires in the area.

BC Wildfire Services says burning will continue periodically until April 4, and will only occur with favourable weather conditions, with good atmospheric venting allowing smoke to clear quickly.

Smoke and flames will be highly visible to residents in the area. BC Wildfire says the burn will appear to be close to the Tolko Industry Lakeview Mill log yard, Williams Lake Golf & Tennis Club, and the Westridge Subdivision.

BC Wildfire Services say some roads and trails may be closed for safety, and there will be signs and roadblocks in place as necessary.
