Fuel Treatment Burns Planned Over Weeks in Williams Lake

Spring fuel treatment burns will be conducted in Williams Lake starting next week.

BC Wildfire Services and the City of Williams Lake are collaborating on a series of prescribed burns starting as early as March 25, conditions permitting.

The burns will continue over the coming weeks and are targeting areas to reduce the risk of wildfires.

The City and BC Wildfire Services caution residents that smoke will be highly visible. Burns will only be conducted on days with favourable weather conditions to ensure good smoke dissipation.

  • The areas where the fuel treatments will be conducted include:
  • The water tower hill on Gibbon Street
  • The park and hillside near Lake City Secondary School’s Williams Lake Campus
  • The Williams Lake Stampede Grounds
  • The lands between Country Club Boulevard and the Westridge Subdivision
  • And the lands near White Road and Bellevue Drive

Residents can find updates on the prescribed burns and other Firesmart activites through the City of Williams Lake’s social media channels and website.

If anyone has more questions on this series of burns or more prescribed fires, they can contact the City’s Firesmart division.
