West Fraser to Plant 2,100 Trees at Boitanio Park

Thousands of trees will be planted this spring at Williams Lake Boitanio Park.

General Manager of West Fraser, Dave Walgren says the project came together as the company celebrated their 60th anniversary with the community last year.

“Part of that celebration was one of our employees, Lisa, came up with doing a legacy project that we could give something or do something for the town which fit in with what we do as a business.”

The 2,100 ponderosa pine trees which will help reforest some of the park that has suffered over the last decade from drought, insects, and other factors will cover 1.53 hectares of the area east of the dog park.

The project was endorsed by Williams Lake City Council Tuesday evening who said staff have been exploring grant opportunities to extend the irrigation system which is estimated to cost $50,000 into the area.
