Residents Ready To Fight For Parkland Elementary In Quesnel

A spokesperson for the group trying to save Parkland elementary school is urging people to come out to a public consultation meeting tomorrow (March 9th) night.

It is being hosted by Quesnel’s Board of Education between 7 and 9 o’clock in the Chuck Mobley Theatre at Correlieu Secondary School.

Parkland is one of three schools targeted for closure.

Charlotte Lettington says there are a number of reasons to keep the school open, none more important than how the students will be impacted.

She says “the busing of our students is going to be a big thing…these little guys on the buses for long periods of time, 8 hours a day will turn into 10 hours a day.”

Lettington says then there is the health of these children and the emotional impact of the change.

Lettington says their farm to school program, where children grow and harvest their own vegetables and learn how to make meals out them, would also be lost.

She says the closure of the school would also have a negative impact on the community as it is also their community centre.

Lettington says they do have some potential solutions that they will be unveiling to the Board tomorrow night.
