Quesnel Foot Bridge Will Not Be Re-named

The Fraser River Pedestrian Bridge in Quesnel will not be re-named.
A request was made to City Council to name it after the late Peter Couldwell who servedĀ 21 years on Council and was instrumental in bringing the lighting to the bridge.
He alsoĀ also cut all of the timber when it wasĀ re-decked.
After much debate Council,Ā while acknowledging the dedication of Couldwell, decided against the suggestion but agreed to explore other options.
Councillor Laurey-Anne Roodenberg felt that when people thought of Couldwell it made them think about Alex Fraser Park and the rodeo or West Fraser Timber park, which he was also very involved in.
The vote was 4-1 in favor with just Councillor Ed Coleman opposed.
He was in favor of public consultation on the question.
