local organization wins sustainable forestry award of merit

 

The Award of Merit in Sustainable Foresty was given from the Association of BC Forest Professionals to a group of organizations referred to as the South Chilcotin Stewardship plan.

They are made up of the Tsilhqotin nation, Fraser Basin Council, West Fraser Mills, Tolko, BC Timber Sales and the BC Provincial Government

Mike Simpson, Senior Regional Manager with Fraser Basin Council in Kamloops, speaks on behalf of the group and the effort they made to win it.

“We took community concerns from Stone and Toosey about what was happening  with forest management and access concerns for moose populations and we incorporated those, the forest companies Tolko, West Fraser and BC Timber Sales and we developed a plan for the south Chilcotin area.

The Award of Merit recoginizes a group or individual for significant and sustained contributions to the advancement of sustainable forest resource management.
