MLA Suggests Quesnel Trustees Cut Administration

The MLA for Cariboo North is urging School Trustees in Quesnel to look within to find savings in their budget.
Coralee Oakes says she’s heard that time and time again from a lot of the parents that have sent letters to her that if it’s just about the classroom and kids and closing schools, what about the administration costs ?
She says they ask if there are less schools what are we doing about the cost from the administration level and she says she thinks that is a fair question.
Oakes is also defending her government on the issue of funding.
She says rural schools do receive more money from the Province.
For example, Oakes says Parkland and Kersley…two of the schools targeted for closure…currently receive $167,400 more per year than Quesnel schools that are in town.
Oakes says there won’t be any money coming from the province to prevent school closures but she does say that she will continues to work with the Cariboo Regional District and parents to try and find solutions.
Ultimately however, she says it is the Trustees’ decision, one that she recognizes won’t be easy.
