Donation Made In Memory Given To Cariboo Memorial Hospital Maternity Ward

A gift to aid parents in time of grieving was recently received by the Maternity Ward at the Cariboo Memorial Hospital (CMH).

A mother who lost a baby before relocating to Williams Lake donated a critical piece of equipment called a CuddleCot in memory of her son Oliver.

CMH Director of Clinical Operations, Heather Hair said it provides more time when a family has lost a newborn.

“This particular bassinet really allows for some additional time that the moms and dads can actually spend it in a meaningful, uninterrupted way with the baby, giving them a chance to say goodbye.”

President of the Cariboo Memorial Hospital Foundation, Tammy Tugnum, said the mother contacted them last year and knew this was something we needed at the Hospital when she graciously donated it.

“It was extremely generous of this family to donate that piece of equipment to our Hospital in memory of their loved one. We are very happy to say that the family has subsequently gone on and had another child who is healthy and that makes us all feel great about that as well,” Tugnum said.

Cariboo Memorial Hospital Maternity Registered Nurse (RN), Victoria Dean, said the CuddleCot also allows parents to have family members meet and say goodbye in the safety of the hospital and supported by staff.

Ramona Laffer, also a CMH Maternity RN is appreciative of the donation noting being able to offer care during the loss of a baby is critical.
