Quesnel Council To Do A Do Over On Shipping Containers

Quesnel City Council is going back to the drawing board when it comes to regulating shipping containers.
Mayor Bob Simpson says the decision was made after a public hearing on Tuesday night that was well attended and gave Council some things to think about.
Simpson says he was pleased with the turnout because all Council really wanted was to engage the public in coming up with some basic regulation on this new phenomenon.
He says currently shipping containers are unregulated in the community in terms of size, location other than front yards, in terms of having writing on them or if they have to have venting or not so older ones may not.
Simpson says that becomes a safety issue, especially if a person is storing flammable materials.
He says if the container isn’t vented it is actually highly sealed and just opening it can cause an explosion.
