Interior Health says McLeese Lake Boil Water Advisory Will Be In Effect “For Some Time”

Interior Health says the Boil Water Notice at McLeese Lake will “take some time” before it’s cleared.

The mobile park has been under a Boil Water Advisory since November 2022, according to Rob Birtles, Team Leader of Small Water Systems for Interior Health.

Tests done on the two wells that supply water to the Estates have come back with results showing poor water quality and risks to the system.

“We have done preliminary assessments and communicated with the owner,” says Birtles. “The owner is going to work with qualified professionals to bring the system up to a standard, and into compliance with the Drink Water Protection Act.”

While progress on upgrading the system for safe and potable water is on going, and making steady gains, Birtles cautions residents and the public that upgrades for systems to be put in place “will take some time.”

“Interior Health at this point in time, has 492 systems on boil water advisories. Typically we see systems on long-term advisories as a result of poor water quality and the system itself needing upgrades. Upgrades at times can be highly costly.”

Interior Health advises residents in the area to follow all Boil Water Advisory guidelines. Birtles suggests that everyone interested in finding out if their system is under an advisory or potentially contaminated to visit DrinkingWaterForEveryone.ca.
