Williams Lake Council Unanimously Standing With Sacred Heart School

The City of Williams Lake Council has expressed its strong support for the continued operation of Sacred Heart Catholic School.

On Tuesday night (January 21) at the Committee of the Whole meeting Mayor Surinderpal Rathor said sending a letter of support to the Catholic Independent Schools of the Kamloops Diocese (CISKD) was approved by Council.

Rathor said they strongly urge the Board (CISKD) to recognize the efforts being made by the community to keep the school operating beyond the end of this school year and to reconsider its decision to close it at the end of June.

It’s big impact would not only be to the community but also to the entire region. It would also impact the Public School system if those 95 students have to go through their system.”

Rathor said the CISKD Board met yesterday afternoon (January 22) before 1 and that before the meeting they (the Board) wanted a letter of support from anybody and everybody to convenience them to say they will keep school open.

As a Mayor it is my prime duty to stand with the community, not only with one church or school, but anybody that is in difficulty. The whole Council is unanimously standing with the school, with the parents, with the system to make sure the school stays open and help to our community.”

He added when Council stands with the community in the difficult times nothing makes him more happy than that and that is the prime duty of the Council.
