City approves funding for more cameras

More cameras will be coming to the City of Williams Lake following Tuesday night’s regular City Council meeting.

Mayor Walt Cobb called Monday’s robbery of a bike from a 14-year-old boy at Boitanio Skate Park at gunpoint Monday afternoon unacceptable.

He says it’s time.

“We can’t continue to sit back and let these guys ruin our community. We’ve had three violent incidents in the last year, well I guess this is the fourth one now, and we’ve had enough. We’ve talked about it and it’s time that the talking quit and action started.”

The City will be matching $10,000 this year to the Williams Lake Central Business Improvement Association (WLCBIA) to upgrade their downtown camera system with the intent to fund $25,000 worth of new cameras in 2017 and beyond which will bring the current system of four up to 32 and be accessible to RCMP 24 hours.

Three cameras are expected to be installed this year.
