Fire Chief Ron Richert says they were called to a structure fire just off of Davie Street at around 9-35 a.m.

“Upon arrival we had a fire in one of the rooms on the second floor. Crews responded quickly and were able to contain the fire to one room.”

Richert says it was quickly extinguished and no one was hurt.

“There was multiple people in the rooms on either side. They were evacuated out of the rooms quite quickly with the help of local bylaw officers. The fire was knocked down fairly quickly so just damage to the one room and the building will be, is one of the buildings that will be demolished down the road here due to the expansion of the Grace Inn.”

Richert says they responded with two engines and 14 firefighters.

He says they were on scene for around 45 minutes, and that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
