Lots Of Priorities For The Cariboo Regional District To Tackle In 2025

The Cariboo Regional District is preparing to address several priorities in 2025.

Board Chair Margo Wagner said they are looking to expand their FireSmart Program.

“We kind of get funding every year and it’s very expensive to do this so it’s a bit of a slow crawl. Because of the fires we’ve had in the Cariboo area it’s an important thing for us obviously.”

Wagner added that the CRD is also prioritizing asset management to ensure sustainable investments in critical infrastructure.

“We can apply for some funding from UBCM to do this because not all Electoral areas water and or sewer systems but a lot of us do and they’re aging. And like pipes in a house they don’t last forever and so we need to get a handle on where our assets are at and what stage they are at in as far as the infrastructure goes and start looking at maybe doing some replacements to do some pre-needed work before we end up with a broken pipe and water everywhere. That’s one of the things that the Board is really happy that we’re going to get going on.”

Wagner noted that the Cariboo Regional District will increase Bylaw enforcement with the addition of a second officer doubling their capability to manage issues such as unpermitted construction and zoning violations.

This improvement, Wagner said, will help the CRD respond more effectively to community concerns.
