Quesnel City Council gets a snapshot of how many new homes are needed

An interim housing needs assessment was presented to Quesnel City Council this month.

It showed the need for 913 new housing units over the next five years, 407 within city limits and 506 in the electoral areas.

Those numbers grow to 12-hundred and 44 in the city and 12-hundred and 62 in the electoral areas over the next 20 years.

The province mandated municipalities to complete an interim update to their housing needs by January 1st, 2025.

A full revision of the report will be required by 2028, and every five years after that.

The city received a provincial grant to do this initial work.
