How close did Quesnel and Williams Lake get to weekend record setting temperatures ?

It was warm but not record warm in the Cariboo over the weekend.

Chris Doyle, a Meteorologist with Environment Canada, says it got up to 4.8 degrees in Quesnel on Saturday and up to 2.8 in Williams Lake on Saturday which are still a ways away from December records.

“The record December maximum temperature in Quesnel is 12 1/2 degrees celsius, and in Williams Lake it’s 10.3. That record in Quesnel on December 10th, 2014, and in Williams Lake the 10,3 record was on December 17th, 2013.”

Doyle says the weekend temperatures were still well above normal however, as the average high for this time of year is in the -4 to -5 degree range.

“We’ve got a storm coming from the Pacific breaking across the Coast through Boxing Day. The rain mostly gets stripped out by the Coast range, but then you get the warm air coming over the coast range heading east and heading into the Cariboo. So basically you’re looking at breezy conditions, temperatures well above average looking at highs in the 6 degree range through tomorrow and right out to Boxing Day.”

The forecasted high for Christmas Day is plus 6 degrees.

The record high for Christmas in Quesnel is 10.6 degrees from 1947, and 7.9 degrees for Williams Lake from 2005.
