Man with ties to Quesnel wanted on charges related to fatal accident

A 73-year old man who has been known to frequent Quesnel is the focus of an arrest warrant from Smithers RCMP.

Timothy Bakanec is accused of being in a collision at the intersection of Highway 16 and 16th Avenue in Smithers that resulted in the death of the other vehicle’s driver.

Police say thee was also a passenger in the other vehicle that suffered significant injuries.

Balkanec has been charged with driving without due care and attention under the Motor Vehicle Act and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

He is described as a Caucasian male who is about 5 feet 7 inches tall and he weighs around 172 pounds.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call their local RCMP detachment.
