It didn’t take long for the Prince George RCMP to find their man following a shooting this week.
Mounties were called to the 1900 block of Ross Crescent just before 3:30 on Sunday afternoon, on a report of shots fired with one victim.
Officers immediately flooded the area, where witnesses pointed out the suspect, who was leaving the area on foot.
According to police, the suspect was arrested less than ten minutes after they received the initial report.
“The rapid response to this incident is a great example of our Frontline police officers’ dedication to public safety,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.
“Though this shooting occurred on a weekend, it was close to a public park and a high school, in a residential neighbourhood at a time of day that often sees people outside in the area. Any additional risk to the public was very quickly managed by this team.”
The victim was taken to hospital with severe but-non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, identified by police as 38-year-old Dustin Charles Burgess, will remain in custody until his next court appearance.
The following charges have been approved in this matter:
Aggravated assault
Discharge firearm with intent
Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order
Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
Police believe this was a targeted incident, and there is no increased risk to the public.
The investigation remains ongoing.
