Williams Lake Skyline to Lose Landmark in the New Year

After gracing the Williams Lake skyline for the past year, the crane at the Cariboo Memorial Hospital development will bid the city adieu in the New Year.

The crane, currently the tallest structure in the Lake City, will finish its work at the CMH construction site by Christmas and be dismantled at the beginning of January.

“This marks another good milestone within the project,” says Project Manager, Brad Mackendrick. “It states that the main structure is now complete and the contractor will now start concentrating mostly on the internal fitout.”

Mackendrick says that ‘Phase 1’ of the development is the construction of the new facility at Cariboo Memorial, and remains on schedule and budget.

Phase 1 will continue until its completion at the end of July 2026. Phase 2, the renovations of Cariboo Memorial’s interior is in its “design stage” Mackendrick says, and will commence around the same time.

The departure of the crane, decorated with Christmas lights has infused the development and city with some extra holiday cheer at night. The crane’s ‘bittersweet good-bye’ to some community members, will be met with an exciting stage in the project’s development.

“It is an exciting stage, and marks a major milestone, we’re going to get a finished building, that will also be able to spread some Christmas cheer next year.”

Accident on Highway 97 On Ramp Closed Section Briefly

A single vehicle merging onto Highway 97 Northbound in Quesnel, hit a traffic pole. Police and the Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department closed the ramp down as the accident was assessed. Only the driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with suspected minor injuires.
