Williams Lake Rotary Club is celebrating 60 years of service to the community.
Rotary President Amber Stratton said they were sponsored by the Quesnel Club back in 1964 and helped charter the 100 Mile Club as well as the Williams Lake Daybreak Rotary Club.
Stratton said in those 6 decades they have taken on many projects around the City.
“We’ve done the Boitanio Park Picnic Shelter, helped with the River Valley Trail, Scout Island Park, and the newest project that we just finished, the Community Fitness Park beside the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex. Throughout the years we have helped with donations to many different clubs and charities in the community.”
Stratton said their club is very in tune to the youth offering a lot of youth programs.
“We sent two students to RYLA which is down on the coast and its a Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program which is great for the youth. We just did a joint group initiative with the Williams Lake Daybreak Club and the 100 Mile Club and we’re also doing books for babies with the Cariboo Literacy Society.”
To mark this historic milestone, last Friday evening (November 29) members of the Williams Lake Rotary Club were joined by Daybreak Rotary as well as the Rotary Clubs from Quesnel and 100 Mile House.
During that celebration Stratton said a member from their club received a prestigious award.
“We handed out the Paul Harris Award that can go to either a Rotarian or or someone in the community who has gone above and beyond putting so much effort into the Rotary club and the community. This year that went to 18-year member Wade Beaulieu for all the work that he does on our youth committee.”
Stratton said Rotary is an amazing program to be part of, it’s service above self.
“We really like to get out into the community and even if you a re unable to join Rotary it’s a great opportunity just to come out and volunteer at some of our events.”
