Tax season is here

T-4’s are being mailed out across Canada right now, signalling the start of tax season.

Canada Revenue Agency Spokesperson Simrat Bains says the biggest hang-ups for Canadians each year can be avoided by moving online.

She says their My Account site will keep your records stored for you each year. “So it’s there for every tax year; they have made it very user friendly and it can go back ten years. It’s easy to sign up, people can go to cra.gc.ca”

The top questions the CRA receive every year revolve around changing addresses, marital status or viewing account balances, all of which can be handled online through the CRA’s ‘My Account’ portal.

“It’s enhanced more this year where people can actually submit documents electronically… they can sign up for direct deposit and save a lot of time.” Bains said

Despite the filing deadline not being until the end of April, the CRA is encouraging everyone to file early to ensure any benefits continue.
