Time To Dig Out Your Shovel In The Cariboo Region

Have your shovels handy over the next 48-hours!

Earlier this morning (Wednesday) Environment Canada issued a Snowfall Warning for the Cariboo as total amounts of 10 to 15 centimetres are expected today through Friday midday.

A low pressure system over the Gulf of Alaska will bring snow starting this morning and continuing until Friday morning.

Warning Preparedness Meteorologist for Environment Canada, Lisa Erven said there will be quite a difference in the total accumulation throughout the Cariboo going South to North.

“For the 100 Mile House/Clinton area, you’re not going to see very much if anything out of this event as there is only a chance of flurries. As we get into Williams Lake that’s when you get into that 10 to 15 centimetres range same thing with Quesnel. As you move further East towards the Likely, Wells areas, those are the communities closer to the Cariboo Mountains and that’s were you see 20 centimetres or more.”

Erven said also impacted will be Highways both going North out of Prince George along 97 and East along the Yellowhead Highway.

Environment Canada stated in their Warning that periods of light snow today will transition to more consistent snowfall tonight.

Snowfall may be heavy at times tomorrow (Thursday) with the system moving out of the region by Friday midday.

For motorists, visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow and surfaces like highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to the accumulating snow.
