Operation Red Nose Green Lighted To Start November 29th In Williams Lake

Another traditional Holiday campaign will be getting underway soon in Williams Lake.

Operation Red Nose will be back on the streets getting you and your vehicle home safely Friday and Saturday nights starting November 29th.

Coordinator Deborah Pickering said as they get into the busier part of the Holiday Season, she encourages people to call them at least a half hour before they actually want to leave.

“If we have a team available and they want to go right now we’ll come right away but if all of our teams are out on the road we may need that little buffer of time. We do keep a list in order of the calls that come in so that they get first come, first serve kind of service. We typically have six to seven vehicles on the roads during those evenings.”

Pickering wanted to clarify that you do have to have a vehicle with you as they are not permitted to pick up people like a taxi service so that is an important thing to remember.

Donations that are received from riders during the Operation Red Nose campaign go to several local not for profit Organizations: Cariboo Chilcotin Gymnastics Association, Camp Likely, the U18 Female Hockey Team, and the Cariboo Chilcotin Youth Fiddlers Society.

“These are the same organizations that have been with us for several years and one of the reasons for that is the parents of these groups are very motivated to do the driving and fundraising and this is a really good fundraiser for them, Pickering said, “so they’re reliable to show up to give the rides.”

This is the third year Pickering has been the Coordinator for Operation Red Nose and went over the number of rides given over the past two years.

“In 2022 we gave 284 rides over nine nights, and in 2023 it was 297. This year, 2024, I’d love to see it bump up over 300, that would be great.”

Starting November 29 Operation Red Nose in Williams Lake will be available Friday and Saturday nights from 9 pm to 3 am by calling 250-392-2222.

“Gratitude as always to Dave Dickson who set this program up in Williams Lake in such a way that it continues to be successful simply by following his model of how he organized it all,” Pickering said.
