Charges laid in connection with robbery at hardware store in Quesnel

A 19-year old man is facing three charges following a robbery in Quesnel.

David Wesley is facing one count each of robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, and is due back in court tomorrow (Thursday) for a bail hearing.

Quesnel RCMP say they were called to a hardware store in the 100 block of Reid Street on Sunday afternoon at around 4-30.

Police say they were told that a man had attempted to steal several items and that staff had intervened.

The suspect is accused of striking a staff member in the head with a hatchet.

Police say the suspect then pulled a large knife and stabbed the employee in the arm in an ensuing struggle before fleeing.

A suspect was arrested the following day.

Police say the employee suffered a laceration to the head and arm.
