Wind warning in effect for the Cariboo

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for the entire Cariboo region.

Meteorologist Ken Dosanjh confirms that there will be gusts of up to 90 kilometres per hour.

“We have a pretty strong Pacific frontal system pushing into the BC interior. We are continuing to see these deep systems crashing into the coastline and spilling over into the Interior, but for this one specifically the low center is placed directly over your area so the low will eventually move around the Cariboo-Prince George area before pushing out into Alberta, but the big concern is the west to northwest winds.”

Dosanjh says these gusts are much stronger than normal from the west and northwest.

“This is definitely the strongest punch that we’re seeing, and it’s mostly due in part because the low itself is going to land around the Cariboo-Prince George region, so the strong winds are concentrated around the low itself, so when we do have the low cross into the BC Interior and moving directly over Prince George and the Cariboo, that’s when we can anticipate generally the strongest winds.”

Dosanjh says we can expect the wind gusts to continue all day and into the night.

He says it will begin to taper off overnight.
