Zoning now in place for new apartment building in West Quesnel

City Council has now approved the rezoning for a 17-unit apartment complex on Doherty Drive in West Quesnel.

The building is being converted from a commercial building to a residential building.

Council also agreed to waive one of the requirements of the multi-unit tax incentive bylaw.

Tanya Turner is the Director of Development Services.

“One requirement is that each unit would have access to an outdoor space or have a balcony They have completed this in 8 units, but the remaining units of he 17 they cannot meet this requirement. It was a waiver of that full requirement for the full facility.”

There has been some back and fourth on this project between the owner and Council.

Parking was the issue back in April.

Concerns were raised that there were just three parking spaces, but an additional 8 stalls were then added on a property across the street.

Turner says the building permit for the project is now in final review.
