SKP Project Gets $4 million Dollar Gas Tax Grant

A $4 million dollar gas tax grant was announced for the Sam Ketcham Pool (SKP) upgrade Friday.

Laurie Walters who is with the working group says it’s really exciting.

“What it enables us to do, is once again work with that low Canadian dollar, and it just gives us that extra leverage for that. Plus we wanted to deliver on time, on budget; that was really crucial to the working group but now we have a little bit of that addition of ‘wow’ factor that we can add to the project.”

Walters says users and visitors can start to notice the $11.3 million dollar two-year project starting to get underway on March 1 with shovels hitting the ground on March 7.

The project is one of 27 capital projects throughout the province to receive more than $69 million in funding through the Federal Gas Tax Fund which is administered by the Union of British Columbia Municipalities and provided by the Government of Canada.
