Quesnel School Enrollment Down

Student enrollment is down in the Quesnel School District.

Jennifer Woollends, Secretary – Treasurer with the School District goes over the numbers of students at the end of September between 2023 and 2024.

“Last year our enrollment was about 2,980 full time equivalent students. So, that is the amount of that we get funding for,” Woollends says. “This year, at the end of September, it looks like our number is 2,903. Just about 75 students are full time equivalent less than last year.”

Woollends explains what impact the enrollment numbers have on the budgeting for this year.

“What we do is we find out our student enrollment, and then what our funding is,” Woollends says. “we staff based on the enrollment and the needs, then adjust the budget accordingly.”

With the drop in students between years, the Woollends is confident that the District will have the budget to cover this year’s full time equivalent students’ and staffs’ needs.
