Conservative Candidate Wins in Prince George – North Cariboo

BC Conservative, Sheldon Clare has been declared the new MLA of the Prince George – North Cariboo riding. Clare won with 11,262 [57.08%] votes, and still counting.

“I am incredibly grateful to all the people who supported me, and came out to voted for me in this campaign,” Clare says on his riding win. “There’s a lot of things to do. I will want to be doing a transition plan with Coralee Oakes. Certainly, one of the big things I’m going to be screaming and yelling about is getting the Quesnel North-South Interconnector going. Getting doctors, and making sure that seniors are looked after. Education, and healthcare, of course. There’s so much on the table that needs to be dealt with.”

Former impudent, Coralee Oakes, an Independent, after winning in 2013, 2017 and 2020 as a BC Liberal, was gracious in defeat as the runner-up in the riding with 4,296 [21.78%] votes.

“I am incredibly proud of the campaign team,” Oakes says. “We worked hard, and connected with lots of people. We got to put forward really important policies and focus on issues.”

Behind Oakes was BC NDP Denise Bardua with 3,323 [16.84%] votes, and BC Green candidate, Randy Thompson came in last with 848 [4.30%] votes.

It has been a seesaw, back-and-forth election so far provincially. Both the NDP and Conservatives have taken the lead off from one another.

Currently, the Provincial results have the BC NDP leading with 39 seats elected, leading in seven. BC Conservatives have 34 elected seats, leading in nine, and the BC Greens have one seat elected, leading in one. None of the independent candidates have been elected or led in any of their ridings.

Elections BC has reported that some results will have to be recounted due to how close the results have come in with the new tabulators.

This page will be continually updated throughout the night as results become available.
