Next Coffee With Council This Wednesday In 100 Mile House

Another Coffee with Council will be held after the Thanksgiving Weekend in 100 Mile House.

It will take place this Wednesday from 3 until 7 in Council Chambers on Birch Avenue.

Mayor Maureen Pinkney said this will be a welcome to new Councillor Marty Norgren who was elected back during a by-election that was held this past June.

Pinkney said a lot of people may not know him and this would be an opportunity to come out and have a chat with him and of all us about any of their concerns.

“Sometimes we focus on a particular item but this Coffee with Council is a general one to hear from the residents, to find out what Societies have been up to, what they might be doing, what needs they might be trying to fund raise for. We’ll be there to answer any questions about some of the major items that we’ve got going on like the bridge and water but there are not the focus of this event.”

Pinkney noted that this a chance for people to see us one on one on a more relaxed open forum.

She also thinks that Coffee with Council is extremely important.

“We know have a group of young people trying to put together a skate park,” Pinkney said, “we have a small one here that we’re going to have to relocate when we do the bridge. Moving forward they came to one of the Council’s and since then they formed a Society, they’re moving forward with fundraising, getting a bigger group together. They may have never come see us at a council meeting, so because Coffee with Council is more relaxed, and we’re open to whatever conversations we’re having, it does open the door for things to happen.”

Pinkney added that there are no topics that are off limits, it’s a wide open door to local government and how can we help you and that’s what we’re here for, we just want to listen.
