Williams Lake City Council taking another crack at having Sunday transit service

Williams Lake City Council revisited having Sunday transit service at Tuesday night’s meeting.

Council worked on having service begin this past April, however BC Transit had a lot of asks from other municipalities across the province with around 120,000 hours being asked, with the typical average usually around 60,000.

Director of Municipal Services, Rob Warnock says the City will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding to send to BC Transit, but there’s no guarantee the service will happen.

“I’m hoping it does, it just really depends on the asks across BC again, I mean if they’re up to 200,000 hours this year, I guess we’ll see where we fall in the queue>” says Warnock.

Warnock added that BC Transit is aware that the City not only wants, but needs this service.

The City would also have an additional cost of $59,826, which he says fares would most likely have to go up to cover that cost, as they had been frozen since 2021.

If the City is approved, the Sunday transit service would begin in April 2025.
