It was 150 years yesterday, that the Tsilhqot’in people honored the six Chiefs who lost their lives after the Chilcotin war in Quesnel.
Chief Roger William says First Nations people look at their warriors who sacrificed everything in defense of their lands and their peoples when times get tough.
William,shares his thoughts of the day, which began outside of the GR Baker Memorial Hospital with more than 200 individuals.
William says although he was disappointed Premier Christy Clark was unable to attend, he commends her historic apology which exonerated the Chiefs in Thursday’s legislature and for also signing an agreement to work together on social and economic initiatives in the Nemiah Valley in September.
William says BC and Canada will only prosper when first peoples of the country are recognized.
