Williams Lake Fire Department On Pace For A Record Year Of Callouts

The Williams Lake Fire Department released it’s call out stats for the month of August.

Fire Chief Evan Dean said last month they had 38 calls for service.

This is actually a reduction from 2023 when we had 46 calls so I guess that’s good news in a way, although 15 of the calls in 2024 were for actual fires which was a doubling of the calls in 2023 when we had far more alarm calls.”

Dean said the other main calls they had this year in August were motor vehicle accidents and a couple of alarm calls.

We had a pretty busy weekend this weekend with another 9 calls,” Dean said, “so we’re at 373 and still on pace for about 540 this year which will be another record year.”

Dean said so far it’s been a pretty busy year for the Williams Lake Fire Department.

We’ve noticed a pretty significant increase in not only the number of wild land fires, but people are obviously a little bit more vigilant so we’re getting quite a few more calls from people noticing smoke or flame in their area. We definitely appreciate that although it isn’t always turning into anything that we have to action but its good that the public is keeping an eye out.”
