Safety Awareness Walk still a go as School District 27 adds back Mile 108 bus stops

A Safety Awareness Walk is expected to continue after School District 27 adds back three Mile 108 bus stops and one re-route.

The additions were confirmed through an email between the School District and one of the walk’s organizers and parent, Danielle Colbourne, which she posted on her Facebook page.

While the bus stops are said to return on September 12th, She says other communities are still affected by the changes.

“The 108 is not the only area that’s seeing the irresponsible changes.” says Colbourne.

“In Williams Lake, there are changes for South Lakeside and Westridge, along with Lac La Hache, Horselake and Forest Grove that are all facing concerning changes, and some of these routes have a posted speed limit of 80 kilometres.”

Colbourne says they won’t stand for some children’s routes being changed back and others not, adding there should be equal safety for all children.

The Safety Awareness Walk has already received support from residents appreciating and pushing for putting safety first, with businesses making donations for water during the walk and printing services for posters.

She says the main goal for the walk is to prove the roads are unsafe and unfit for the students, and show the district needs to properly review and reinstate all bus routes.

Colbourne added small changes seem to be in progress, and their pursue of equality for all children affected will continue.

The walk will begin today at Mile 108 Elementary School at 2:25pm, with parking at CCLF Church.
