Four Cariboo residents were surprised yesterday (September 5th) afternoon with a medal very few people in the country have.
The King Charles III Coronation Medal, which around 30,000 people have received in Canada, is awarded to those who have made a significant contribution to the country, province, territory, region or community.
Cariboo Chilcotin MLA, Lorne Doerkson talks about presenting the medals to the community members.
“Those individuals in order of the alphabet are Donna Barnett, Wilbur Saunders, Dale Taylor and Tammy Tugnum.” says Doerkson.
“It was an incredible event, an incredible opportunity, and certainly one of my proudest moments in office to hand them out, and just an amazing moment.”
Doerkson added that four people receiving the medal in the region is massive, especially with the very few people who have received it, with slightly more than 500 in BC.
He says it’s a testament to the type of people working as volunteers in the community.
Doerkson, who helped nominate the four recipients, says the medal is just for the king’s coronation, and is the first one in 70 years.
