Quesnel Pow Wow to take place this weekend

It’s either the first or 50th Pow Wow that gets underway in Quesnel tonight.(Friday)

Tony Goulet, the Executive Director with the Quesnel TIllicum Society Native Friendship Centre, says “it’s the 50th because the Friendship Centre has been doing them for 50 years, and then it will be the first for Lhtako.”

He says it will also be their first use of the arbour as well.

Goulet says it starts at 7 o’clock tonight (Friday) and it will continue tomorrow (Saturday) from noon until 9 and again on Sunday from noon until it ends.

He says this celebration always means a lot to people.

“It’s a very spiritual dance, it’s a healing for some people, some people put a lot into their regalia and it shows where they come from, it shows their sobriety, and it shows who they are as individuals, so very powerful when you see those great regalia that they’re dancing in.”

Goulet says there will also be vendors there with food, and there is a dinner on the Saturday.

He says everybody is welcome.
