Greenhouse gas emissions were down by 12 percent in Quesnel in 2023.
It went from 1,311 tonnes in 2022 to 1,153 last year
Lindsay Blair, Senior Community Development Coordinator, delivered the news at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.
Blair noted that the drop was due to a warmer winter and lighter snow at the start of the season.
It was part of the public reporting that is necessary under the Local Government Climate Action Program that communities get funding for.
Quesnel received just over $107,000 last year to support initiatives to reduce emissions and prepare communities for the impacts of a changing climate.
That includes adaptation, mitigation, and resilience efforts.
The city is slated to get almost 314 thousand dollars over the next three years.
