100 Mile House RCMP gives tips as wave of break and enters persists

100 Mile House RCMP is seeing a slight bump in break and enter callouts at the tail end of summer.

Callouts in relation to those incidents typically happen in waves, rather than a general uptick in reports.

Sergeant Brian Lamb gives tips to help prevent a potential break and enter.

“In relation to general property, if you’re not going to be there obviously inform your neighbours, have people check-in, have people keep a look out on your property.” says Lamb.

“If anything is seen suspiciously, then they can call RCMP, and that gives us a heads up when things could be occurring in progress.”

Other tips include locking personal items to deter a thief, and if someone is acting suspicious, or a suspicious vehicle looks to be casing properties, or an actual offence is occurring, to call RCMP immediately.

Lamb says it’s even a good idea to create a list of items before or after being taken to help identify and search for them.

He adds that at times they have been able to track them down, get them back, and even lay charges, or the homeowner would find it being sold on online marketplaces.
