ICBC reminding drivers of back to school safety tips

The school year is fast approaching, and ICBC is sharing safety tips for drivers, parents and caregivers.

They said that across the province, 359 children are injured in crashes when walking or riding a bike every year.

Tips for drivers include watching for school buses going 30 kilometres an hour in a school zone from dawn to dusk, avoid distractions and more.

ICBC said they will be joining speed watch volunteers across the province to monitor drivers’ speeds in school zones.

Parents and caregivers can help kids stay safe by teaching them how to cross the street, have kids walk on the inside edge of the side walk, among others.

In northern BC, which includes the Cariboo, three children are injured in playground zone crashes every year.

More information on back to school safety tips can be found on ICBC’s website here.
