Teamsters Union issues strike notice to CN; CPKC stoppage persists

The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference has issued an official strike notice to CN Rail, a move that could withdraw their 6,500 workers if a new deal isn’t reached by Monday.

It comes just hours after the union said it had taken down picket lines at Canadian National Railway Co. and its workers began returning to work on Friday.

The notice said workers will walk off the job if an agreement is not reached before then.

The union stated the work stoppage at Canadian Pacific Kansas City remains ongoing pending an order from the Canada Industrial Relations Board.

It comes after Ottawa forced an end to the ongoing labour dispute between some 93 hundred workers and C-N and C-P-K-C by sending it to arbitration.

Federal Minister of Labour Steve Mackinnon announced yesterday (Thurs) the two sides will be forced to sit down to hash out their differences.
