Province provides funding to support community safety

Various communities within the province will be able to strengthen their evacuation route planning.

In a release from the Province, they’re providing communities with a total of $909,000 through the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund to develop and update existing plans, with $119,850 going to the Cariboo.

Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, Bowinn Ma said “recent emergencies, such as wildfires and landslides, highlight how important it is that people have the information they need to evacuate safely.”

“By investing in community evacuation route and public notification planning, we’re helping ensure that local governments and First Nations have the tools they need to keep people safe during emergencies.”

Two communities in the Cariboo will be receiving funding, with the first being the District of Wells, who will be receiving $30,000 towards public notification and emergency route plan.

$89,850 will be going to Williams Lake First Nation for regional evacuation route planning and regional partners including the Cariboo Regional District and the City of Williams Lake.

More information about communities receiving funding can be found on the Province’s website here.
