Update: Evacuation Order cancelled for south Valemount, Cedarside areas

The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George and the Village of Valemount have cancelled the Evacuation Order for the impacted areas.

Residents are able to return home.

Original Story 8:19 PM

An Evacuation Order and Emergency Alert has been issued for south portion of Valemount and Cedarside area due to the Canoe Road wildfire.

It was made this evening (Saturday) by the Vilage of Valemount and the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George.

Residents are asked to evacuate immediately if you are in the following areas: east of Highway 5, south of 17th Ave, and north of the Canoe River, including properties at the north end of Kinbasket Lake.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the blaze is 8 hectares in size and is out of control.

Ground crews are actioning the wildfire alongside Valemount Fire Department personnel with support from airtankers, skimmers and helicopters.

Those affected are asked to re-locate to the Robson Valley Community Centre in McBride. If you are unable to evacuate, call 9-1-1.
