Forestry agreement signed between Williams Lake First Nation and West Fraser

Williams Lake First Nation has signed a Joint Development Agreement with West Fraser combining tenure volumes into a single First Nations Woodland License (FNWL).

The license would be held by Williams Lake First Nation.

Chief Willie Sellars said “This agreement allows WLFN to manage forestry activities in key area of interest while keeping our stewardship priorities at the forefront.”

He added that the agreement and the associated FNWL represent a positive step towards reconciliation.

President and CEO of West Fraser, Sean McLaren noted the importance of WLFN leading the forest resource management in their traditional territory.

Timber supply for the First Nations Woodland License will come from the Central Cariboo Timber Supply Area.
