Quesnel Council Approves New Arena Savings

Quesnel City Council has okayed a couple of cost savings for the Arena Replacement Project.
Council, at the urging of staff, has agreed first to waive the regular building permit fee and instead charge the North Cariboo Recreation and Parks Service 10-thousand dollars to cover the direct incremental costs of the city.
That would take approximately 52-thousand dollars off of the cost of building the new arena.
The second savings has to do with tipping fees at the landfill.
Director of Finance Kari Bolton says the fees from the debris from the demolition of arena one will be charged to the contractor but the revenue will be credited to the North Cariboo Recreation and Parks Arena Replacement Project.
She says doing this will ensure that the sub contractor will still be motivated to maximize opportunities to recycle material, minimize waste and effectively deal with contaminated material.
Bolton says it is estimated that this will take approximately 100 thousand dollars off of the price of the arena which is moving forward with an all-in cost of 20.6 million dollars.
