Residents can be expecting some temporary changes when it comes to snow removal within the City of Williams Lake.
Mayor Walt Cobb and Council reviewed the policy late last week after receiving a slew of complaints.
He says there were changes made in 2011 that have resulted in developing issues and that one of the things he did not understand was why staff were not cleaning from curb to curb.
“They were just pushing and if you notice that’s where most of the problems were is where people were trying to park and that didn’t make any sense to me and it didn’t make any sense to the staff but that was the policy and he (Director of Municipal Services) had to follow it,” Cobb says.
“So we’ve given him direction to make those changes temporarily until we can get the written changes made.”
As for the City’s current sidewalk removal policy, Cobb says residents and businesses will still have to look after their sidewalks.
“We can’t do everything at once, but I think that will be a big part of the main discussion; liability is a big part of the problem but it’s the cost as well,” he says.
“We can do it, but it’s going to cost money.”
Cobb says they will be looking at a further review of the policies over the summer as well having some public meetings.
City Council had adopted a Snow and Ice Control policy which outlines the level of snow removal service the City provides during snow and ice events in October of 2011.
