Chainsaw wielding man arrested at Deka Lake

A chainsaw-wielding man from Prince George was arrested in the South Cariboo over the weekend.

100 Mile House RCMP say they were called out to an assault in progress on Margueritte Road at Deka Lake at around 8-30 on Friday night.

Police say it started out with the Deka Lake Fire Department responding to a call of a campfire that had been set.

They reminded a 23-year old man that there was a ban in place but RCMP say he became abusive and then attempted to flee the scene in their fire truck.

Police say the firemen managed to prevent that from happening but were assaulted in the process.

RCMP then arrived on scene and they say the man became belligerent with them as well and grabbed a chainsaw, started it up and then used it in a threatening manner.

Police say a brief standoff ensued and the male was eventually subdued with pepper spray.

Two officers and two firefighters were treated for minor injuries.

The male is now facing numerous charges including Assault, Assault with a Weapon, Assaulting a Police Officer, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Uttering Threats.

He remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
