RCMP confirm that 6 of 12 prolific offenders within Williams Lake are in custody.
Mayor Walt Cobb calls it good news.
“RCMP have been doing some good work of course and to get 50% of our prolific offenders off the street is a good thing,” Cobb said.
“My hope is that the judicial system will deal with them and deal with them accordingly and make sure that police don’t have to be chasing them again in the next week or so by letting them out with a slap on the wrist.”
Cobb adds that the City will be in the process shortly of working to create a message to the judicial system.
“We can make recommendations when we know they’re prolific offenders and that’s what we will be doing.”
“We’ll do whatever we have to do to keep them in jail, or get them treatment or get them out of our community.”
Staff Sgt. Del Byron says this recent work by RCMP had no relation to the Stampede, which according to police was a relatively quiet year for them.
A press release highlighting further details and number of incidents occurring from June 26-June 28 is expected to be released by RCMP Tuesday morning.
